The Snipping Tool in Windows 11 now includes optical character recognition (OCR) technology, which allows users to extract text from screenshots.
This feature, called Text Actions, is available in the latest build and is being rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels. With version 11.2308.33.0, users can easily copy text from images and share it with others or paste it in another app.
To use this feature, user will simply click the Text Actions button in the toolbar to reveal selectable text before copying it with your mouse or using keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + A and Ctrl + C. In addition, Snipping Tool has redaction capabilities to hide sensitive information from screenshots. Users can click Quick Redact to automatically conceal emails and phone numbers or manually select text to hide using the Redact Text option in the right-click context menu.
Since Snipping Tool comes pre-installed with Windows, all users will eventually have access to these features without having to install additional Microsoft software.
