Would you get caught out by a phishing email?

Phishing is where you receive an email from what appears to be a trusted source asking you for sensitive information, to open an attachment or click on a link.

In reality these emails are not from the believed source and are dangerous. They will use your data against you or infect your computer with malware. Employees within organisations are becoming the weak spots in security because they are unable to spot when they are sent a fraudulent email.

However, there is now a new form of technology in place to provide education and make sure that these issues do not occur in your organisation. Phishing simulation services allow businesses to send their own phishing emails to staff to identify where training may be needed to keep systems secure.

The service is able to use a range of different templates that mimic the likes of Apple and Amazon to tempt your staff into opening an email. If the member of staff is caught out by the message they can be sent to training videos, quizzes and websites that will give them more information about phishing.

By engaging in a phishing simulation exercise the aim is not to embarrass or frighten staff, it is a very easy mistake to make, the purpose is to inform and educate. Raising the awareness of staff within an organisation is essential to ensuring that the IT systems remain protected and are not open to any vulnerabilities. For example, if you do not deal with post or purchasing there is no need for you to open an email from TNT. It's putting yourself at risk for no reason and you could cause major problems by triggering a ransomware attack or a virus.

End user education for cyber security is becoming a necessity to an organisation's business continuity. If you feel that your business would benefit from a phishing simulation exercise please do get in touch on 01675 469020.
