ACUTEC International

About ACUTEC International

ACUTEC International Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of ACUTEC Limited. It was established in 2009 to promote ACUTEC’s overseas business and continues to do so, not without some significant successes.
Hugh Pearson, EMEA, ACUTEC
ACUTEC International is a relatively new addition to the ACUTEC ‘family’, and whilst still relatively small, it is growing quickly and is planned to represent a much larger slice of Group turnover by 2015.

Through force of necessity, ACUTEC International tends to offer a subset of the full range of ACUTEC’s activities abroad. These centre around the development of bespoke software solutions, IT & business/ organisational consultancy and IT & leadership training/ development. More recently, ACUTEC International has written a software package which it is marketing in the developing world to governments, NGOs and aid agencies in an effort to capitalise on its deep understanding of the specialist needs of the area (see below for details of the package).

ACUTEC operations abroad

From fairly early in its life as an IT services company, ACUTEC has had clients overseas. It has to be said, however, that initially it was some of ACUTEC’s UK clients which encouraged ACUTEC to operate overseas, rather than a positive move by the company to go there. Some examples of this are as follows:

Spain Germany

Guhring

In Germany and around the world, Guhring is a leading tooling company. As well as building their UK website http://www.guhring.co.uk, ACUTEC provides software, network and workstation support. Guhring Limited is a world class manufacturer of precision rotary cutting tools and allied tooling for the engineering & medical industries.

Switzerland Switzerland

Switzerland

In Switzerland and elsewhere around the world, Wandfluh is a leading hydraulics and electronics company. In addition to building their UK website http://www.wandfluh.co.uk, ACUTEC provides software, network and workstation support. As part of the Wandfluh group, Wandfluh UK supplies hydraulic and electronic solutions around the world, specialising in proportional technology plus standard and miniature hydraulics for the many industries.

Spain Spain

Pueblo Evita Logo

In Spain, Pueblo Evita ordered bespoke software and support from ACUTEC. Pueblo Evita is a large timeshare company based near Malaga and it also receives network infrastructure design and support from ACUTEC.

Ireland Ireland

KGAR Logo

In Ireland, K G Aircraft Rotables, has located its head office (Dublin), with its IT supported by ACUTEC. But its principal operations are at East Midlands Airport in the UK from whence the company provides aircraft parts especially for Boeing 737s and for prestigious clients such as Easyjet and Ryan Air. When they opened a depot in Florida, USA, the support of their network and website there was also undertaken by ACUTEC.

USA USA

Pailton Logo

In Indiana, USA, Pailton Engineering, the steering systems manufacturer, uses ACUTEC to support its systems as it does in the UK. Pailton has an operation in Germany, also supported by ACUTEC.

Belgium Belgium

InBev Logo

In Belgium, InBev has its head office. InBev is the world’s largest brewer, owners of the Budweiser, the Becks and the Stella Artois brands, and employing 120,000 people in 30 different countries. In the UK, it uses ACUTEC written software in three of its largest plants (in Glasgow, Preston and south Wales) to measure the efficiency of their packaging processes for canning, bottling and kegging. This software also does wastage reporting. Subsequently, InBev has used ACUTEC for almost 10 years to support the software and for on-going project work. They have implemented the two pieces of software at its plants in Belgium, yet another example of a client having taken ACUTEC abroad.

Origins of ACUTEC International Ltd

But it wasn’t until 2009 that ACUTEC International was founded to manage ACUTEC’s burgeoning sales efforts – and successes – principally in East Africa. In particular, ACUTEC International won a $250,000 contract from the Government of the Republic of Northern Sudan in Khartoum (ie before the country split into two different entities). It was commissioned to specify, design, write, test, install, train staff in the use of and provide on-going support of bespoke software to monitor the provision of community projects in a country where civil war had blighted development almost continuously for 25 years. Numerous visits to Sudan led to the establishment of a useful network of prospective clients and in 2010, ACUTEC International won a second contract, this time at the International University of Africa, also in Khartoum. This was for the provision of IT planning services, satisfactorily concluded in the first half of 2011.

In addition to its small client base, ACUTEC International has good links with UK Trade & Industry at the British Embassy in Khartoum, and at the consulate in Juba, the new capital of South Sudan. In Sudan, it established a relationship with a ‘local counterpart’ company, designed to represent the company on the ground in Sudan.

The MCP package

ACUTEC International is now keen to further expand its activities on the international front, particularly in Africa and the developing world. One of the vehicles it has developed for doing this is a software package called ‘MCP’. MCP stands for the Monitoring of Community Projects.  ACUTEC International is therefore pleased to announce its MCP software package, an enterprise database system empowering management and staff to support community led infrastructure projects in war affected and developing societies. The package will assist in the handling of the interaction between Management, Communities, NGOs, service providers and contractors. MCP could thus support sustainable, locally led works in your developing country.

MCP grew out of its experience of this type of application, as developed for the Government of Sudan and, now, others.

At its core, MCP uses a secure, web-based interface which allows location independent access to management and organisational tools that provide a 360° view of detailed record information. Such data will be specific to communities, projects and contracts through to aggregated information, annual summaries and statistics of all implemented sub-projects, capacity building, budgets and impacts. These will complete the requirements for the annual report, as is likely to be required by the World Bank or other funding agency or interested party, such as your Government department.

MCP is a modular system featuring, amongst other things, the following component parts:

  • Community Monitoring
  • Sub-Project Planning & Implementation
  • Procurement & Project Management
  • Operational Programme Management
  • Built In & Bespoke Reporting
  • Client Relationship Management

Moreover, it is secure, has multiple access methods, is user friendly and future proofed through the use of the latest technology platforms.

Implementation and Training

The success of management information systems projects, like MCP, relies not only upon the selection of a sound package but also having a well planned and executed implementation, installation and staff training programme.  Any quotation provided by ACUTEC for MCP will incorporate consultancy days to project manage the entire implementation, which will feature installing the software, managing local data entry, on-site staff training (management, other head office and field staff) and supervising ‘Go Live’.

Only this way can ACUTEC ensure that the client gets what he pays for and achieves an appropriate return on his investment in MCP.
